NEWSROOMMoU Signed between HDC and MOE for HDC Apprenticeship Facilitation

A crucial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Ministry of Education (MoE) and Hulhumale’ Development Corporation (HDC) on 30 March, 2016 at Hotel Jen. On behalf of MoE, Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Shiham signed and on behalf of HDC, Managing Director Mohmed Saiman signed the MoU. The purpose of the MoU is to facilitate an apprenticeship program for TVET Authority’s Technical and Vocational students who are doing various courses under national competency standards.

Both signatories of the MoU delivered speeches outlining the commitment for the current skills training drive the government of HEP Yameen has embarked. Dr. Aishath Shiham noted that while a youth city has being constructed in Hulhumale, it is the government’s aim to equip the school leavers of the island with job-ready skills that can facilitate employment for them. Minister highlighted that providing internship opportunities for skills jobs by various government bodies, is an example of good cooperation in order to achieve common objectives.

In his speech HDC MD Aiman provided some information about this new apprenticeship program. The program will be open for a great number of students each year for an array of around 40 skills areas including welding, carpentry, landscaping, automotive maintenance. The selected apprentices will get a monthly pocket money while in the program. The selection and registration of apprentices will be handled by HDC and the successful graduates will obtain National Certificates issued by the TVET Authority.
