NEWSROOMWorld Youth Skills Day was marked for the first time in the Maldives

To mark the “World Youth Skills Day” for the first time in the Maldives, TVET Authority conducted various activities in Male’ City and the Islands in collaboration with Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Economic Development, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment and Ministry of Education. During the official event held at the Meeru Bahuru Maalam of the Customs Building to mark the World Youth Skills Day, the Chief Guest of the ceremony, Honorable Minister for Communication, Science and Technology Mr. Mohamed Maleeh Jamal launched the National Apprenticeship Program and the Employment Sector Councils of the Maldives.

The National Apprenticeship Program is designed to facilitate youths around the country to participate and learn a skill from the experienced supervisors stationed at the actual work environments where the trainees will be placed during the course of the training program. Upon completion of these trainings the graduates will be awarded with a Level 3 National Certificate of Competency in the selected field of work. All the training programs provided as part of the National Apprenticeship Program will be free of charge.

The Employment Sector Councils were initially introduced to the Maldives during the Employment Skills Training Program (ESTP) conducted from 2007 to 2010. In addition to the newly formed sector council for the employment sector of Information Communication Technology (ICT) there are altogether 6 Employment Sector Councils established in the Maldives. They are the sector councils for: Transport, Tourism, Fisheries and Agriculture, Social, Construction and the newly formed sector council for Information Communication Technology.
